Jobs in Baroda - Career Advice

These links provide some useful advice on different career options and what you can expect from each career choice.

CV Advice
1.) Your CV is the information on which your employer bases his or her decision on whether to bother interviewing you or not. It is your foot in the door.
2.) Your CV should be customized for each job application – the information should be relevant to the job that you are applying for.
3.) Your CV must stand out from the rest of the pack - it's an advert for the skills and services you have to offer.
CV Tips
1.) Use clear formatting on your CV - there's no point having great content if it is horrible to look.
2.) Don't make your CV too long - your Curriculum Vitae aren’t an essay.
3.) Your CV /Resume is about tomorrow, not yesterday. Concentrate on experience and achievement that equips you for an even better future.
4.) Put yourself in the mind of the reader and ask what will make them excited. Your CV is not a list of demands for what you want so don't focus on an objective.
Interview Advice
1.)

You are at the interview because the employer wants you there. It’s not goodwill or charity – you earned the right to be there, so be confident in your abilities – you’ve just overcome the first step!

2.) Go into the interview, smile and shake the hands of the people who will be employing you.
3.) Be relaxed – especially important if the job you are going for requires client or customer contact – if you can’t be relaxed while being interviewed, you will not get a customer / client related job. Don’t pick your nose and put your feet up on the desk though – that’s too relaxed.
4.)

Think of something interesting to ask them. Read up on industry and sector news – it shows that you are keeping up to date with new developments and that you’re on the ball.

5.) Try to relate your existing skills to the role that you are applying for (e.g., “oh yes, I did a similar thing at school/college/a previous job”).
6.)

Sell yourself. You are offering them a service, which they will have to pay you for. They are your customers.

7.) If you screw it up or for whatever reason you don’t get the job – forget it make it as your experience and move on to the next interview. Don’t let it set you back (you are never going to see these people again anyway). Interview skills are learned and developed through experience, so don’t dwell on your failures – but do learn from them.

Dressing and Appearance in the interview
1.) Appearances do matter.
2.)

Don't underestimate the power of a first impression. People make assumptions about you based upon your appearance at your first meeting.

3.) You are more likely to receive better service, command more respect and get what you want if you are dressed and speak appropriately for your surroundings.
4.) Your appearance should be consistent with your message.
